Synthesis Papers and Prize

2025 Call for Applications!
Application Deadline: February 17, 2025

The American Journal of Botany welcomes applications for our AJB Synthesis papers and the AJB Synthesis Prize ($2,000) to showcase early-career scientists.

The AJB Synthesis section features invited contributions by early-career scientists that concisely summarize and synthesize a focal research area or question. These articles summarize recent research and provide new insights that advance the field. Contributions may focus on newly emerging areas or provide new perspectives on established areas. We encourage authors to express a personal perspective, while maintaining a balanced view of the field. Syntheses should be single-authored, no longer than 3,000 words, written so they are accessible to the broad readership of the journal, and have informative and creative visuals. All Synthesis papers accepted for publication and published in fall 2026 through spring 2026 will be considered for the AJB Synthesis Prize.

APPS Special Issue Call for Papers

“Non-model Plants: Challenges and Solutions”
Proposal submission deadline: January 20, 2025

Applications in Plant Sciences (APPS) is accepting proposals for a special issue: “Non-model Plants: Challenges and Solutions.” Model organisms have been instrumental in advancing our understanding of fundamental biological processes; however, their limitations restrict our ability to fully appreciate the richness and complexity of the plant kingdom. Studying non-model plants presents unique challenges due to their often complex genomes, intricate life cycles, and limited research infrastructure. This special issue seeks submissions that not only address these challenges but also propose innovative solutions and resources.
